A Win-Win Situation

I had applied to Google and didn’t know what their response would be, so I made sure not to plan based on them accepting me. Instead, I decided to make plans based on the information I already had. I had already received a job offer from a company called Northrop Grumman. So I decided to plan my future based on accepting their offer. That’s why it didn’t hit me so hard when Google rejected me. To be clear, I was disappointed, but it didn’t take me long to get back on my feet. I was able to do this so easily because I created a win-win situation.

Making plans based on Google accepting me would have only set me up for failure. By planning ahead assuming that Google would reject me, I created a win-win situation. Either I would earn a job, or gain experience and follow the plan I had already come up with. So when I received the disappointing news, I did just that. I’ve learned from both JET and Google that creating win-win situations is a way to keep motivated. I’ll make sure only to plan life based on information I already know.
